Frontera Corozal

Well I made it to Mexico, but, of course, it was not without at LEAST a FEW minor problems. After deciding not to argue with the random $5 charge that the "Migra" wanted from me, it turned out I wasn’t even in the system! “Cuando llegaste? Donde?” They didn’t even know I had been in the country for four weeks! Who knows what happened at the airport, but supposedly they fixed it. I’m hoping they’re the only ones at the border crossing (very small) when I come back in a few weeks.

After arriving by boat for half an hour, I leisurely wandered up to the Mexican immigration office where all went smoothly. Depending on where I was headed, it looks like I could have skipped checking in with them in the first place and just slipped back into Guatemala in a few weeks. But of course, I’m a good boy.

Following the Mayan ruins, I wandered around town a bit then went down to the river to take some photos. Walking along, some kids were shouting “hola” and then “hello.” I shouted good afternoon in Spanish, but that wasn’t good enough. They moved onto “F*CK SH*T” etc. – possibly knowing what they were saying. Having wanted to head that way anyway, I strolled over to them and we ended up practicing English for a while. Then I was invited to DINNER by a random 14 year old and her teacher…..good times. Looks like I’ll be coming back in a few weeks to brush up on my Sex-Ed-In-Spanish!

Below are pictures of the Mayan ruins I visited, as well as some shots along the river that separates Guatemala and Mexico down here.
