laundry time!!!!

Cheesy as this is, I couldn't help putting a post about doing my laundry by hand. I'm cheapening up this trip, so every dollar counts, including the US$3 here and there that it costs to do laundry. I had to improvise a bit since I didn't have the pila I'll have in any of the houses I'll likely be living in after moving, but I'd still say it was a success. Try not to get too excited over my cute red briefs.

Belize

Greetings all,
Well I just got back from a week on the island of San Pedro, part of the northern Cayes off the coast of Belize. While filled to the brim with seafood, I managed to stuff my face plenty without cheating and was able to withstand a week of eating out literally every meal until the night before last when it finally got to me. I'm back in Guatemala now, recovering, then on to Wendy's house tomorrow for Christmas dinner. Attached are some of the highlights from the trip., including the sharks I had the pleasure of swimming with near the Hol Chan Marine reserve. Aside from snorkelling, the week involved a whole lot of nothing, just lounging around on the beach and wandering around the island listening to a mix of Spanish, Creole and English I was almost able to understand.

xoxo

Cascada El Chiflon

Friday, I went to the waterfall pictured below. Actually, a series of waterfalls. Very impressive and quite a tourist trap. However, as much of a sight as it was, I was more of a spectacle and 4 or 5 groups of people asked to take my picture. At the end are two that returned the favor.

Las Guacamayas

After Frontera Corozal, I headed up to the "ecotourism" center, Las Guacamayas. VERY pretty place and there's nothing like waking up to hundreds of howler monkeys....the sound is a cross between a lion and...umm....a tonsillectomy without anesthesia? At first, it's EXTREMELY intimidating, but you get used to it. And they're SO cute!
